What odd thing happened to you today?

Just thought it might be funny and interesting to make a topic about the strange things that happen to you. It can be anything (topic title can be adjusted at a later time)


For instance, today I woke up, it was about 9am with nice weather outside (sunny) which usually/always means there are a lot of birds, even here in the city. But today there are none. Its now 10:30am and I have yet to hear a single bird?!

Also, I was downloading some stuff and my internet connection has about a max download of 600kb/s. I was downloading 2 things, one was downloading at 450kb/s and the other at about 750kb/s. Now I may not be a rocket scientist, but that seems to be impossible with my connection. Right now the one thing has finished downloading and the other is currently at 1.1MB/s. Thats almost double of my max capabilities!! I didnt get a message that they would be updating anything, so this is quite a shock for me. A happy shock though, obviously. I just hope this will last...


EDIT: Just went to the internet provider site and it said they are in the process of upgrading the connections. So thats why my internet is faster. Cant log into my account there, have never been able to, so thats why I didnt get a message. SO, its permanent, which is very nice. Mystery two solved, now the birds...

Seriously, ramblings? To me that usually suggests a certain level of incoherency, of confusion. Something...negative. Maybe that is because I associate it with 'ramblings of a madman'. I guess ramblings also means something else, like a rambling speech, one that just goes on and on. In that case youre talking about my seemingly unnatural ability to make every post into an entire essay

So, maybe rambling is not the right word. Dont know what other word to use right now though



Ok, back ontopic: if something odd happens, please do post. I actually do find those things interesting. And if you can find out the reason behind the odd, then that would be nice too.

I have yet to hear a bird all day, but I have a theory. I went to play basketball a bit today and I noticed that it was quite windy today. So maybe the birds just werent flying because of that. It was blowing almost as hard as it usually does near the sea. And Im in the city here, so it might be possible that the birds wouldnt be able to cope with that and thus did not fly and did not reveal themselves.

Okay, this is something quite odd, 'cause it hardly ever happens to me. I woke up in a terrific mood, even after having had nightmares the whole evening and struggling to sleep. I feel like I'm floating in a happy zone right now, LOL. I have to go to work later, so I hope this feeling lasts even then, it's amazing.

My theory is actually serious. Usually when I went to school a few years back and I had to ride alongside a river, when the wind would blow fairly hard, you wouldnt see any great or blue tits flying, just the bigger birds. So thats how I came up with the theory

I think the whole bird thing....it probably also has to do with cloudiness and everything. Nothing is as simple as this usually

Yeh, id look into it. If it turns out someone put something innocent in your coffee (like 10 extra sugar cubes), Id say do that more often

What just happened to me was that I was just thinking how nice and quiet it was and I didnt hear anyone drilling a hole. 2 secs later, someone starts drilling a hole. And another and another and another

I found out something very odd today, but it did not happen to me......i read that a couple had a baby born at 9:09 am on 9/9/09 and the baby weighed 9 pounds and 9 ounces........strange isn't it?

Lol, somewhat strange yes. I just realised like halfway through that day, that it was the 9th of the 9th of the 9th, but nothing bad happens on that day. Or nothing special or whatever. Thats too bad. I mean, the world was gonna end on 6 june 06, and now we got nothing. I like doomsday prophecies

I wonder whatll happen if I were to predict a major earthquake striking SF on october 3rd this year, and it would actually happen. And I had also make a prediction about a flood in europe early next year, would people then leave europe by the millions?

I ask this, cos theres so many doomsday things out there, its only a matter of time before someone is right, just by sheer luck

Random happenings for me this week was I had my first car accident, thank god the car is fixable and there was no ticket from the cops. Just have to deal with the insurance claim. Also got a whole new set of tires for half price because of all of this too.

Today I almost got in an accident too. When I got back from my bike ride, I was on the roundabout and had to go left. As Im a cyclist on the roundabout, I get to go first and a car or a scooter will have to wait. I heard a scooter approaching going way too fast, and I heard he didnt slow down when he entered the roundabout even though I had signalled that I would go left. So I gently squeezed the brakes before the scooter got there and he was only just able to pass, his jacket hit my fingers. Had I not heard him going too fast and just braked when I saw him (a split second before hed got to me) Id be in the hospital now, probably. So I guess I was lucky. And you know whats... odd? I didnt even pay attention to the road, I was occupied by my thoughts, I nearly hit the curbs 3 times

in my bjj class i could not lock on the rnc .i had it like 4 times

I'm glad you're both okay. I've been driving for more than 5 years now, and I'm not always the safest driver, but my dad taught me advanced driving, so I'm a GOOD driver, LOL. Yeah, things can happen to the best drivers out there, but I'm just grateful I've managed to avoid that.

I remember the one day while I was out with my driving instructor (had to go for a lesson in order to qualify for something), there was a drunk driver on the road. I avoided two accidents with the idiot, and the poor instructor was terrified. After the lesson, he said I could teach him a thing or two... He was shaking, and I was laughing. The thing is, people panic too quickly in these kinds of situations... For some reason I just can't panic, and I think that's what helped me out that day and helped me to stay focused. If I had panicked, I would have done stupid things and it could have ended up dangerously.

I agree, I think you should probably rely on yourself, on your skills rather than freaking out. Just be confident on the road. That way you will panic less easily. When you panic things start to go wrong. It doesnt have to be panicking because theres almost an accident, Ive often seen people panic on a busy road where they had the wrong exit and then cross to the other lane when they are not supposed to and do that a few more times and in the end park their car somewhere dangerous, lets say the middle of the crossroads. Just because they werent calm enough to just stick to that exit and find the right road later, they panicked.

Now I can't say what kind of driver Im gonna be. All I know is that I was glad when on monday I was driving in the city and my instructor helped out in the brake department. And steering in a narrow street. It was my first lesson, so he hadnt taught me to watch out for anything yet, I still had to focus on the actual driving. Im going again tomorrow and then every wednesday for about 8 weeks btw. And then I get another advice on how many more lessons I should have before I can take the driving test. He did say I picked things up quickly though, but that was just operating the machine, thats the easy part. (so far)


@ Dante: Things happen to us all. It is our (personal) definition of strangeness that determines whether the occurance is an odd one or not. Having said that, I still believe something odd happens to all of us too, but you don't always see it for what it is. One could argue (and this is one of those nice paradoxes) that the lack of odd things happening to you (in your opinion) is actually an odd thing in itself. Which would then mean an odd thing has happened to you which makes the previous statement incorrect, thus rendering the second one incorrect as well and ahhhhhh paradox.....headache.....universes explode!

But seriously, try to be very aware of your surroundings, there is always something out of the ordinary. This can go two ways, it is way out of the ordinary or it is just too normal.

Your way to good at psychology Bastiaan lol.........and i have had 1 driving lesson as well hahaha.......i didnt do that bad. Well i actually had 2. One was in my driveway and i had to backup into a spot between 2 of our other cars(here's a fun fact: we have 6 cars in our driveway). And the other lesson was on the road driving to my cousins house.

6?! What do you need 6 cars for? And how huge is your driveway?

My psychology comes 0% (well, maybe 0.5%) of research and actual knowledge, the rest comes from using my mind and imagination. I think psychology is very interesting. I could never be a shrink though...

Here we are only allowed to practice in a special practice car with a certified instructor. Ill have my 2nd lesson tomorrow. My lessons are actually double lessons, so just over an hour and a half. I wonder what Ill be doing tomorrow, so far I havent done much. Just drove a bit at a place with few cars around and then went into the city, where my instructor helped out with braking and steering and looking. But well see.


Odd thing that happened: I lost the ability to write one sentence without spelling errors that I did not correct. My average error count per sentance was probably about 1.5...not counting the 3-4 per message I corrected

I seem to be ok again now though. I can suddenly type perfectly without taking my eyes off the screen....Im weird.

my car, my brothers car, my brothers girlfriend has 2 cars, my dad's car, and my mom's car.

Odd thing that happened to me was i almost flipped my four wheeler, and i am usually careful of that, because that's my biggest fear of riding a four wheeler.I had the four wheeler on 2 wheels and i almost lost my balance but saved it.

Odd thing that happened... I can't find my ATM card anywhere. I didn't drop it in a public place, and the last place I remember seeing it was in my wallet, in my bag, on my bed. I say it's odd 'cause this sort of thing has happened before. My money just vanished three times already, and I don't want to point fingers, but one of the triplets always seems to have money, and where she gets it... I don't know. I DID speak to her about it, without an accusatory tone, but she says she doesn't know anything about it. Maybe I'm just mental and imagine that I have money.
