Carano VS Cyborg
Only a few weeks left to go before the biggest female MMA fight in history! I wish I could have gone to see it live, but San Jose is such a long way from South Africa, and the flights aren't exactly cheap. I still can't wait to watch it though.

Its really drawing close now, I keep forgetting that. Its less than two (2!) weeks away! Too bad I couldnt go either. I hope to catch it online somewhere, but I dont know where yet. Im sure there will be a channel somewhere though. Cant wait, its gonna be awesome!
Re: Carano VS Cyborg
So...Gina didnt manage to get past the first round. Imo her slow starting weakness lost her the fight. Im glad this is why she lost the fight, cos to me this means she is still a better fighter than cyborg and this suggests it didnt have anything to do with not training hard enough or whatever. If it went to 2nd and 3rd round, I have no doubt that Gina wouldve won it. She just needs to work on her starting pace. No idea how you do that though, but to me that is her weakness
She will come back though, I hope she will have to fight 2 or 3 top contenders and then get another title shot. Hopefully against cyborg, to avenge this loss. Go Gina!

Re: Carano VS Cyborg
I still think Gina's a better fighter, Cyborg just brawls so there's no comparison there really. Do you think she'll get another shot against Cyborg?
Re: Carano VS Cyborg
Definately. BUT, I hope it wont be too soon. If she gets it after fighting only one other fighter, people are gonna say that she got the shot because of her popularity. I hope they will have her fight something like 3 top contenders and then give her another title shot, assuming she wins those fights, of course. If cyborg is still the champ then, she will have her rematch. If cyborg loses her first title defense, I have no doubt Strikeforce will want to get a rematch between them whether or not they are title shot material at that particular point. Just because this fight was so big, a rematch is probably gonna draw a lot of spectators as well. But well have to wait and see. For now I think Gina should just train and STrikeforce should decide who is the next person to fight Gina and Cyborg
Re: Carano VS Cyborg
Maybe it's better if Gina first fights a few other fighters, but now the question is, who... Woman weight classes don't have such a big selection YET. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
If there's a re-match, I think it will actually draw more spectators than this, the first fight. I could be wrong, but it's a possibility don't you think?

You know, I've watched that fight over and over again...trying to figure out what happened.
I definately agree with the fact that if they would have let it go to the second or third round, Gina would have taken that fight easily. She did start off slow though. But thats what she does. I think she likes to get the feeling of a fighter first off.
Now the one thing that I noticed was that when Gina had her on the ground, she did let her up. And that could have been her biggest mistake right there. She's a fair fighter. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. But when she let cyborg up, instead of getting up like any other person, she charged off the ground, taking advantage of the fact that Gina wanted to make it a fair fight.
I dunno. I mean, I guess a loss is a loss, you know? But I know Gina can beat her. All Cyborg does is come in swinging. Yeah, she's good on the ground but Gina proved she could handle her there. So the only thing Cyborg really had was attack mode.
Gina's gonna have a few more fights. She's gonna get to run through a few more rounds and when it comes time for she and cyborg to face off again, she'll be ready.
I believe that she'll come back stronger, faster and harder. Cyborg won't know what hit her.
I could go on and on about this fight haha.

I agree with you Alaska... Gina is a slow starter, and I think with Cyborg you can't afford to "feel her out", she's just too aggressive. People give Gina a lot of flack for her ground game, but like you mentioned, she did a good job there. Her ground game has definitely improved. She admitted in her Yardbarker blog entry that she's a better fighter than she portrayed that night, so I know that a re-match will reveal that. For now, I'm looking forward to her next fight, against whoever they decide upon.
Re: Carano VS Cyborg
One thing I can say, I feel bad for the next person she fights. lol
EDITED::
And yes, that's the same thing that she posted on her Myspace.
When I read it, I felt for her. As odd as that is, I think I was pulling for her more than she was pulling for herself.
I always wondered what yardbarker was. haha.
