New Bands/Artists
Does anybody know of any new bands or artists with a hard rock sound? I'm drawn to deep, dark, haunting songs. Music and lyrics that reflect those feelings I can't put into words, but lately I'm craving some more of the hard, angry style of music... Anyone have any suggestions?
Re: New Bands/Artists
It really depends on exactly what you mean and personal taste, of course. I dont know of any real new bands, but I myself quite like Godsmack. You may already know it.
Could you give an example or two of a band/song that has that sound? I have over 15000 songs, a lot of which is hard rock/metal (and a lot is trip-hop, jazz and easy listening stuff, lol). Anyway, theres gotta be something there for you...

I've heard of that band, but never heard any of their stuff. Will check it out.
Examples: Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Bullet For My Valentine, Nightwish, Nickelback (they're a bit more mellow though). Those are the ones I know.

Re: New Bands/Artists
Well, as far as I know you can forget about finding anything similar to Evanescence (when I say Evanescence I mean their album Fallen). I have been looking for something that sounds similar myself and all I have been able to find is We Are The Fallen, which is a band with Ben Moody and some other former Evanescence members
I have some things that are somewhat similar to BFMV, the one I know best is Stemm (they also do the UFC song).
I should have a lot of bands that are metallish like Nightwish, maybe youd like Sonata Arctica.
Anyway, I will go through my musics folder soon and try to find some artists

Re: New Bands/Artists
Thanks man, will check those out when I get back from work. Especially the Ben Moody band, he was originally with Evanescence, so it makes sense that the sound will be more or less the same.
Re: New Bands/Artists
He did release a solo album too I think, but that sounds a bit different. But Ben Moody is awesome in writing songs, he also did that song with Anastacia for Fantastic 4
Re: New Bands/Artists
Ben and Amy wrote the most amazing lyrics and music, so I was highly upset when Ben left the band.
Re: New Bands/Artists
Yeh, they were awesome together.
Another band that I would like to make you aware of is Blind Guardian. I don't know for sure if youd like them, they have a strange sound. It is a sort of metal, in each album they tell a story. The album they released in 2006, A twist in the Myth, is so far for me their best album, because pretty much all of the songs on there have great melodies. On other albums it was usually just a few songs. Other songs I myself love are Mirror Mirror, And then there was Silence, and Nightfall. So you could check em out. Youll probably either like em or hate em

Re: New Bands/Artists
Thanks, I will definitely check them out... At the moment my bandwidth is extremely low, and I'm only able to get again on Monday, so it will have to wait till then. Have you heard of Nightwish? Also very strange and different, and I don't like a lot of their songs, but I have a few favorites.
Re: New Bands/Artists
Yup, I know Nightwish. Ive heard every song at least once. Im very curious about a next album, since their last, Dark Passion Play, was awesome, with their new singer. They used to have a female (Tarja Turune who would sing slightly opera-ish, if you know what I mean. And this new singer (Annette O) has a mpore traditional singing voice, which makes their songs sound a bit different. So yeh, I know about them, lol. I LOVED Last of the Wilds on their last album, and most others. And from their other albums, Nemo, Elvenpath, Stargazer, Moondance, Crownless, Over the Hills, Away, Phantom of the Opera....Thats just a few that I remember I liked. Quite a bit
Maybe youd also like Sonata Arctica. Symphonic Metal, sorta fast, although their last album was a lot slower in pace. My Land, Replica, Letter to Dana, Fullmoon, End of this Chapter, White Pearl Black Oceans, Paid in Full, Caleb. Those are some of their songs that are great. With Power of One giving me chills everytime I hear certain parts of it.
Sonata and Nightwish were pretty much my introduction to metal and symphonic metal. Well, other than Dragonforce, but thats basically playing the guitar as fast as humanly possible...and then some.
You should also definately listen to Iron Maiden if you havent already. They are also really awesome. And famous I like pretty much all their songs, although I dont know em all that well. A few that are good are Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Fear of the Dark, Sing of the Cross, The Clansman, Rainmaker. With Fear of the Dark and Clansman being my favourites. Clansman has had the 'honour' of being at the top of my best songs ever list at a certain point and it stayed there for months. Also, their entire album 'Brave New World' is awesome, with songs like Ghost of Navigator, Wicker man, Brave New World, Blood Brothers, Dream of Mirrors. Imo, thats their best album
So, quite a lot to check out, lol

Re: New Bands/Artists
Another band I personally really liked and kinda forget about but will be listening to more now is Axenstar. They are a metal-ish band, you may compare them with Sonata Arctica, only much slower. Maybe not that hard or haunting, but you might still like em. Their song 'Abandoned' has my fav guitar solo ever. And its actually something fairly simple but it has all the right notes and the perfect rythm
Or perhaps youd like Boy Sets Fire, a post-hardcore band (I think theyre done now though)...Usually they have sorta regular choruses, with versus a bit more aggressive, though it varies per album. They don't scream/grunt much, if they do its usually a semi scream

Re: New Bands/Artists
I actually have a request to make now too. If anyone knows of artists with a similar sound as Blackmore's Night, please let me know. I've been having trouble finding stuff like theirs. I go to last.fm and check the similar artists, but theyre not that similar This music works best when I'm writing, so I want more
So...similar stuff to Blackmore's Night, lemme know.
This is a youtube link to Shadow of the Moon (weird clip and all I guess): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgjHDL3t8uQ
Btw, Blackmore comes from Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist of Deep Purple. Kinda different music style huh?

Re: New Bands/Artists
wow ...........i listened to it ..to tell you the truth i dont like personally but hey you have ur likes
Re: New Bands/Artists
Im not surprised, tbh. I just like pretty much everything, thats the problem. But this mainly helps to get your imagination going
Re: New Bands/Artists
I agree, it's way different to most styles out there... Not too sure what I think of it though, LOL.
Re: New Bands/Artists
Yes, its different. Personally I like it. But the main point for me right now is that it helps to get me in a fantasy medieval kinda mood. Which is why I need more
Re: New Bands/Artists
